Saneri launches energy hub at Stellenbosch

The South African National Energy Research Institute (Pty) Ltd, (Saneri) hereby invites applications for bursaries from interested post-graduate researchers.

The bursaries will cover relevant costs for Masters and Doctoral research-based studies in the following thematic areas:

 

 Energy infrastructure optimisation;

 Energy efficiency and demand side management;

 The impact of energy use on the environment;

 The role of energy in stimulating socio-economic development;

 Cleaner fossil fuel development, including clean coal technologies and

 Renewable Energy

Applications for postgraduate coursework-based studies will also be considered but preference will be given to research-based studies.

Only applications for the 2007 academic year will be considered and the selection will be done by the management of Saneri (Pty) Ltd.

Saneri, a subsidiary of CEF (Pty) Ltd, is a state-funded energy research company.

Its focus is on public interest energy R&D and it seeks to assist national government in meeting the national goals of economic development and the improvement of the quality of life of all citizens.

Saneri aims to transform the energy R&D human capital available to the country, not only by growing it, but by ensuring that women and previously disadvantaged individuals receive sufficient support from the state.

An amount of R50 000 per year is available for Masters students over a period of two years and an amount of R65 000 per year is available for PhD students over a period of three years.

Saneri supports the equity targets of national government and therefore preference will be given to historically disadvantaged and women students.

Applications should be in the form of a motivation outlining the proposed course of study and the public benefit that would materialize from the outcomes of such work. A letter of support from the relevant academic supervisor for the proposed scope of study should be submitted together with the motivation. The candidate’s previous academic record should also be attached.
