CEF to trade carbon credits
Global WarmingCEF (Pty) Ltd will start trading carbon credits this year to encourage projects that cut greenhouse gas emissions. Dr Manny Singh said yesterday that CEF’s trade in carbon credits would feed into the European Union emissions trading scheme, whose participants include the EU’s 27 member states.

EDC second annual roundtable focuses on renewable energy
The Energy Development Corporation (EDC), a division of CEF (Pty) Ltd, will be hosting its second annual roundtable on 3 April 2007 in Sandton, Johannesburg. The topic this year is renewable energy, with sessions to cover issues from technologies available to financing mechanisms and the latest developments in biofuels. Presentations have been selected with an emphasis on new developments in the sector, with representatives coming from government and industry. The day's proceedings will be followed by a gala dinner.

A new method of lighting a fire proves that sometimes clean energy solutions come from the grassroots without the help of complicated engineering. Sixty-three-year-old Mrs Nobelungu Mashinini of Embalenhle township in Secunda has discovered that by placing a few lumps of coal on the top of a fire at the right time, it improves ignition of the underlying coals.
